Mumbai Cutting- OSIANS FILM FESTIVAL

Mumbai Cutting was the third Movie which I viewed. The movie explains the different phases of Mumbai City. It is a combined effort of Bollywood top directors.

 

The 10th Osian’s Cinefan festival in New Delhi was marked by the screening of the film “Mumbai Cutting.” The film has 11 stories about Mumbai and the film shows the city culture .Each story of the film is of about 11 minutes. The films have been directed by Rituparno Ghosh, Anurag Kashyap, Shashank Ghosh, Sudhir Mishra, Revathi, Jahnu Barua, Rahul Dholakia, Ayush Raina, Ruchi Narain, Kundan Shah and Manish Jha.  

 

 

The film is produced by White Cloud and it is presented by Sahara One Motion Pictures and the stories depict the realities of the city Mumbai.

 

The metro city that is basically the glamour world of bollywood is just not present in the film that is similar to “Dus Kahaniyaan” because it shows stories with an awaking script and the film also shows those parts of the city that is generally not captured by Indian cinema. The short films of the film ‘Mumbai Cutting’ has excellent performance from the lead actors.

Comments from Cast and Crew:

Director Sudhir Mishra said, “Mumbai Cutting is a movie based on the theme Mumbai and it captures the individual reactions of the directors to the city. The film is an eclectic mix of 11 short films which are completely different from each other.”

Director Revathi said, “I am not from Mumbai but the producer wanted me to direct a film for this movie as I keep fluctuating between Chennai and Mumbai. I have made my film through the eyes of an immigrant. Mumbai Cutting is like a book which has different stories with different moods but Mumbai is the common theme in each of the 11 short films.”

 

Producer Niyati Shah stressed on the fact that, “each of the 11 scripts are original and written by the directors themselves.”

 

Director Kundan Shah, senior most on the panel said, “I was extremely exited about the offer made to me to direct a short film for Mumbai Cutting because of its theme which is Mumbai. The producer shared with us the theme and had given us complete freedom to select our subject.”
